Air Quality, unknown chemical contaminants and dangerous noise levels all form part of the risk that is faced when examing Industrial Hygiene. EHA's Industrial Hygiene Moduleand its comprehensive sample tracking allows for easy data analysis. Allow us tohelp you find out if any of these elements are affecting production within your work environment.
Occupational Hygiene Systems
We offer the complete range of occupational hygiene services. A qualified team of hygienists, based in Cork and Dublin, provide nationwide consultancy, training and management systems advice. The continuing development of the occupational hygiene service facilities a further broadening of our integrated, multi disciplinary, approach to occupational health and safety.

Air Monitoring
Our hygienists provide occupational monitoring services for all substances quoted in the 2002 Code of Practice to the Safety Health and Welfare at Work (Chemical Agents) Regulations, EH40 and the ACGIH Handbook of Threshold Limit Values for Chemical Substances in the Work Environment.
All monitoring is carried out in accordance with internationally accepted methodologies using a wide range of equipment from traditional personal monitoring pumps to state of the art flow logging and direct reading instrumentation. Calibration certification is available for all equipment.

Chemical Risk Assesment
Chemical risk assessment is core occupational hygiene skill. We offer occupational hygiene risk assessment combined, when necessary, with occupational medicine testing techniques. In many situations biological markers offer excellent measures of exposure particularly where the main uptake is not through inhalation.
The following services are provided:
~ Chemical risk assessment surveys
~ Policy development
~ Audit surveys
~ Development of audit systems for chemical risk assessment
~ Competency training
~ Chemical awareness and handling training.

Ergonomics and Manual Handling
We have been involved in providing ergonomic
consultancy services for over ten years. From work concept to task analysis a comprehensive consultancy service is available through us. Assessments for simple VOU workstations to multi-faceted work movement analyses are all part of the service offered by us.
Our occupational hygiene team provide manual handling work place risk assessments to national. British and American criteria. The manual handling related training courses set our hereunder are available:

Indoor air quality (IAQ)
Indoor air quality (IAQ) issues are of growing concern and can be encountered in almost every workplace environment. Contaminants including respirable particulate, volatile organic hydrocarbons and biological hazards have all been associated with employee discomfort and the non specific health symptoms often attributed to poor air quality and so called sick building syndrome. Reduced productivity and increased abseenteeism regularly occur as a result of air quality problems.

Lighting
Light is an integral parameter in any working environment. The correct levels of luminous intensity are necessary to ensure safety and comfort. Lighting is often overlooked in general risk assessments and in many areas assessments are incomplete without reference to appropriate lighting guideline.
We provide lighting surveys for a variety of workplaces from fine magnified work to heavy engineering. Long term logging equipment can be installed if required.

Noise and Vibration
In 2005 national legislation to implement the EU Physical Agents (Vibration) Directive {PA(V)D} and the Physical Agents (Noise) Directive {PA(N)D} is to be introduced. Risk assessment of exposure to hand/arm and whole body vibration will be required and the action levels for daily noise exposure are being reduced by 5dB(A).
As the noise limits are reduced and become more difficult to achieve the need for accurate exposure assessment and effective controls has never been so important.
Our acoustic services include:
~Occupational noise exposure assessments
~Personal dosimetry exposure assessment
~Noise control surveys
~Exposure reduction planning
~Long and short term environmental monitoring
The following courses are provides:
~ Physical Agents (Noise) Directive
~ Noise Awareness training for operators
~ Hearing Protection - Selection, Use & Replacement for operators.
~ Hearing Protection - Enforcing Selection, Use & Replacement for supervisors.
~ Hearing Conservation Programmes - Design and Management

Respirator Fit Tesing
Ever increasing numbers of studies address the likely level of protection provided by various forms of personal protective equipment (PPE)especially respiratory protective equipment (RPE). Over the years various guidance documents have issued assigning protection factors to the different types of RPE. As RPE testing has advanced there has been a general reduction in protection factors.
One of the critical issues influencing the effectiveness of RPE in the workplace is the goodness of fit. Traditionally reliance has been placed on qualitative tests. We now offer QUANTITATIVE fit testing using HSE and OSHA approved technology. The service was launched when the then Minister for Health. Mr Michael Martin T.D.opened the new EHA building in Cork.
